Oh, no

Here I am

This place I’ve come to know

Another friend has left behind

An aching in my soul.

Daylight fades

Darkness falls

I’ve been here before.

Hushed and still

Stopped until

Life makes sense once more.

Every time it feels the same

Empty deep inside

Nothing left

Out of air

Shaken, cold,

Frail, and scared.

Fair you well

I hear you call

Find your own hereafter

Fare you well

Be on your way

Back to life and laughter.

Time flies

People die

Is how it’s going to go

And pass they will

More frequently

The older that I grow.

Friend and foe

Off they’ll go

Taken one by one

Each replaced

By silent space

All is said and done.

Fare you well

I hear you say

Though your spirit’s shaken

Feel the rain

Upon your face

Thank this day for breaking.

What if each and every loss

Takes so hard a toll

Stops the world

Blocks the sun

How can one

Carry on?

And so

Here I stand

It all comes back to me

If all that’s left are traces of

Your precious memory.

And so tonight

My friend, goodbye

Though tears are in my eyes

It’s joy with which I’ll do my best

To think about your life.

Fair you well

I hear you call

Find your own hereafter

Fare you well

Be on your way

Back to life and laughter.
