It’s not that I don’t care about reality
In fact, I wish I knew just what it is
I know it’s something more than it appears to be
And that’s as close as I can get to it.
I care, I do, I really do, but then again
It's not the only thing that's on my mind
I'm rearranging puzzle pieces made of air
In hopes a bigger picture's what I’ll find.
The atoms of an answer pop up now and then
At times when nothing else is going on
But layers of the everyday suck up the air
I wake, I race, and then each day is done.
One distraction, two distractions
Three distractions, four…
Waste no time
Love those you love
Work hard and guard the door.
It’s not that I don’t care about reality
The truth is that it's really so not so
I know it’s something more than it appears to be
A fact I can't imagine letting go.
It’s only understanding what I cannot see
And cannot hear, or smell, or taste, or touch
It may be just a sheer impossibility
My brain can maybe only know so much.
I saw a brand-new picture of the galaxy
As big as big and small as small could be
With shapes we see in nature all around although
At scales that seem to chase infinity.
It’s not that I don’t care about reality
The more I look the more I hope to see
I know it’s something more than it appears to be
And that's the thing that's tantalizing me.
It’s not that I don’t care about reality
In fact, I wish I knew just what it is
I know it’s something more than it appears to be
And that’s as close as I can get to it.
One distraction, two distractions
Three distractions, four…
Waste no time
Love those you love
Work hard and guard the door.
